Who took care of the contract for Alex?

How to manage work for distributed teams with Enterprise Service Management

Everyone is experiencing how the way of working has permanently changed over the last couple of years. It is more and more common for companies to let their employees work from home or remotely in general. It is not unusual anymore that employees or teams are based in different locations, offices, cities or even countries. As a consequence, teamwork and collaboration have changed, so has the way we communicate.

Video meetings, calls, chat tools and email have become the standard for all communication between teams and companies about daily tasks. Information sharing between team members in a distributed way and by that responsibilities are distributed too. This is common practice nowadays.

So, the question is: who took care of the contract for Alex?

That’s a good one. First of all, who is Alex? Alex is our new employee and we need to take care of Alex’s contract. Our team needs to manage that Alex gets the right contract at the right time with all the required information. This is where Enterprise Service Management (ESM) comes into play. Managing the workload across companies in a way where everyone is well aware of what is happening with all the information available to the entire organisation. Team members of IT, Project Management, HR, Finance, Marketing or Facilities Management, they all work together to create and produce value for the company and its clients. By organizing the work on a centralized platform, teams can keep track of their tasks, and what needs to be done and make sure value is being created and not lost in an inefficient process.

Atlassian Jira Service Management (JSM) offers a platform for supporting this way of working. Work items are no longer spread over different team members, email inboxes, notes on papers or other systems. All items are on a centralized queue visible to all of the team members and ready to be assigned based on company SLA agreements. Work can be arranged in efficient ways to let the team work together, within or across other departments following the process matching your organisation. In addition, a web portal is available for internal and external clients to raise requests that need to be done and also for them to keep track and communicate with the appropriate team of their requests.

So everyone will know who is responsible for the contract for Alex and what is happening with the contract.
