TIBCO NOW Tour 2015
On October 15th the TIBCO NOW 2015 Tour visited London. And of course we were there to look at TIBCO’s latest and greatest. Over 600 people travelled to London to attend the event.
In the near past TIBCO organized a big 3 day event in the October period, but starting now they decided to shift this to the spring period, starting in 2016. (See http://now.tibco.com/ for details on this event). In order to bridge this gap, TIBCO NOW went on tour and visited London and Paris.
The content of the day varied from, of course, all aspects of integration to Analytics. And since I am mainly occupied with the latter, I visited the Analytics break out sessions. An overview blog of the day can be found here: tibco.cm/1LRxJq6
The most interesting part for me was a lecture by Ana Costa e Silva from the TIBCO Analytics team. Her presentation was titled Learn on Big Data, Deploy in Fast Data, and she shared, what more you can do with TIBCO Spotfire in combination with statistical languages like R. The TERR (TIBCO Engine for Runtime R) engine of Spotfire tends to be up to 40 times faster than open source R. That can be explained by the fact that the people behind R are mainly looking for results, not for speed. And Ana made a great effort in showing the audience that the combination of a big data environment (Hadoop in her example) added so much value. The vast amount of “old” data in the Hadoop database is being used to learn and build a predictive model, that can then be used to predict the future based on the more recent data.
