What is your role at Devoteam?
In 2020 I started as a future with the DevOps traineeship of Devoteam. With my non-technical background, I saw this track as the perfect opportunity to make a transition to IT. The interplay between business and IT has already fascinated me during my studies (Digital Business (MScBA), UvA). You can bridge this gap with DevOps.
As a DevOps consultant you are involved in (improving) IT processes and systems. In the broad sense; how do we use technology to improve organisations. My interest in this has only grown since I started!
What is the achievement at Devoteam that you are most proud of?
In the COVID period it can be difficult (especially as a starter) to find a good connection within an organization. After being in the office for a month, I had to complete the rest of the traineeship at home. I was able to get used to working from home fairly quickly. The challenge lies in getting to know your colleagues. I have now been working at Devoteam for almost a year and, like most, have mainly worked from home. I am therefore also proud of my colleagues, that despite the distance and many newcomers, we came out as a close team!
What is the most important skill you need for your position?
If a problem arises in the IT process or system, it can have major consequences for the work of others. In such a situation it is important that you can switch quickly to absorb the impact. It is also very important to obtain certificates and to keep abreast of the latest developments. You will therefore also have to switch between work and ‘study’, a skill that comes in handy as a DevOps person.
If you had to choose again and you couldn’t go into IT for work, what would you do?
With my Swiss roots I have always had a great love for the mountains. In the winter I am therefore also a fanatic snowboarder and in the summer I hang from the ropes in a beautiful climbing route. If I had taken a different career path, this one would probably have been in the mountains. I could well imagine a job as a climbing instructor 🙂
